Why pursue constellation training, or consider having a constellation? One reason: the possibility of letting go of the problem of our “crazy families.”
Many of us seek a solution in separation. Often this is necessary and life-saving. And, after a while, even if we are completely separate from our families, we often find the patterns have followed us, re-created in our new relationships and work environments. Once we’ve come to appreciate our separation and the gifts it has given us, we find we want something more: freedom from the family patterns, too.
“What we resist, persists.” This is a wise saying, and it has something to do with why, despite our separation, there is still some kind of maddening belonging or similarity to the old in our new life circumstances. So, how do we separate without “resisting,” without bringing in the old pattern into the new?
Constellations offers us a remarkable solution to this dilemma. Through the work, we find a way to belong well to our families — who, regardless of their profound limitations, brought us into life, somehow — while following our own path. This is NOT the same as hanging out with them; if being away is necessary for our safety or wellness, then it’s important to keep doing that.
But through constellations, we can find a good way to be a child of this particular family, with these particular people. To take the best, and leave the rest with them. To know where we come from, be grateful for our lives, and face forward toward the dignity of our lives.
Does learning how to do this interest you? Starting on October 4th, I host another cohort of learners in my annual Online Constellation Training. If you are interested, I invite you to check out the website now, find out the details, and contact me as soon as possible for a conversation to see if this is a fit.
