I’ve always felt that spring in the desert is an unexpected ecstasy. Mostly, you don’t have the grand gestures that feature spring elsewhere. But on walks, in corners and along arroyos, you see this bursts of color and new life. It’s thrilling! I actually find myself going a little nuts on these spring walks, because there can be so much unrelenting TAN, and then there’s this burst of yellow or purple or pink or blue or red. It makes the world feel full of counterintuitive magic, that this kind of flamboyance can arise and thrive here.
I just finished leading another year of the Western Intensive! For those of you new to this event, this is an annual residential gathering in New Mexico I founded and organize, inviting international constellation facilitators and eager participants to five days of adventurous, joyful constellation inquiry and healing. This year our faculty consisted of Suzi Tucker, Francesca Mason Boring, Sarah Peyton and myself. It was a real dream team! And participants responded — we had by far our largest gathering ever, twice the size of last year, with 100 people from around the country and the world. (See picture of our rambunctious crew below. If you want to come next year or want to be kept in touch with Intensive announcements, go to Western Constellations to subscribe.) Phew!
Yes, I am still kind of recovering. 🙂 And with the conclusion of another great year of my Advanced Training and a final trip to Northern California to lead and event with a dear colleague, I now move into my most restful season, summer.
I will as usual be leading my hugely fun five-week Constellations for Individuals class, and of course I continue to see individual clients, but mostly it’s rest and hopefully a little shift to doing long-term work on my business.
As for recreations, many of you know I am an outdoorsy person and backpacker, so I am looking forward to a long trip to southwestern New Mexico, an area called the Gila Wilderness, to explore the mountains, ancient indigenous culture, and the famous Very Large Array Telescope (as featured in the old movie Contact with Jodie Foster, a favorite of mine!).
August takes an adventurous turn as I visit my sister who lives in Europe. We’ve decided, after reading the novelist and poet Ismail Kadare, to visit his home country of Albania! We really don’t know what we’re getting into, but we always have fun together, and we love diving into old cultures in out of the way places.
I hope that this season offers it’s unexpected ecstacies for you, especially if you are going through a difficult season. And that it is the door for a summer of rest and expanded learning, growth, connection, and healing.
