We’ve all been there. A behavior we want to stop. A habit we want to start.
- Quit smoking.
- Eat better food.
- Get into action about our business.
- Start to exercise.
-
Stop getting so angry.
In all these instances, we want to say yes to something that would be very, very good for us. These are activities that would express our deepest, truest nature.
But for some reason, we can’t say yes. We don’t know why, and it kind of breaks our heart because now we’re against ourselves and not doing or having what we most long for.
Usually, when we start to try to work on these changes, we explore our resistance. What the heck is going on that’s keeping us from doing it? This is a very good question.
However, I’d like to suggest there’s another question, quite a different question, one that you might not have thought of, and which might finally release the willingness you most want to experience. This is the question:
“I wonder if I’ve already said yes?”
I’d like to suggest you have, already done that. Simply by longing for the better way, some part of your spirit and your consciousness and your heart has said a full and complete yes.
The truth is, we are always saying yes and no at the same time. Having yeses and nos in us is a very good thing–we need both to live well. But when we are stuck not doing something we want to be doing, we are often hyper-identified with our resisting identity, the part of us that is saying no to having what we want.
What’s wrong with me that I can’t quit smoking???
What’s wrong with me that I can’t work on my business???
What’s wrong with me???
Well, what if something is already right?
We have a no, and we have a yes. My invitation: Take a little time to get re-acquainted with your yes, the part of you that has already fully embraced the good way of living your life….
What do your yeses and nos feel like? Please share your thoughts and questions on my blog here.
